Password Generator — Strong Random Passwords & Passphrases

A password generator creates random strings that are hard to guess or crack. Unlike choosing a pet name plus a number, generated passwords have no predictable pattern. Good generators use cryptographic randomness so each character is independently unpredictable.

Select Password mode for maximum entropy — enable all character types and set length to 16 or more for important accounts. Use Passphrase mode when you need to type the secret on a TV, console, or shared device without a password manager handy. Use PIN mode only where numbers are required — longer PINs are stronger.

A random password (like a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols) maximizes entropy in a short string. Best for accounts stored in a password manager with autofill.

A passphrase (random words separated by dashes) trades symbol complexity for length and memorability. Best when you must type it manually but still want strong protection. Use four or more unrelated words.

PINs suit numeric-only requirements but have smaller search spaces — use the longest length allowed.

This tool uses the Web Crypto API getRandomValues function built into your browser. That is cryptographically secure pseudorandom output suitable for password generation — not Math.random, which is predictable.

Each generation is independent. Bulk mode ensures no duplicates within a batch.

When enabled, characters that look alike (0 and O, l and 1, I) are omitted from the pool. Useful when you might read the password aloud or type it on a device where fonts are small.

Human-chosen passwords follow patterns — names, dates, keyboard walks, and common substitutions attackers test first. Generators avoid those patterns entirely.

Compared to memorizing one password for everything, generated unique secrets limit damage when any single site leaks. Pair generation with a password manager so you only memorize one master password.

Compared to short complex rules (Password1!), a longer random string without dictionary words typically resists both guessing and brute force better.

Generated passwords are only as safe as where you store them — use a reputable password manager or encrypted vault for long-term storage.
